The pandemic has been raging for about a year now and life is so different than it was 12 months ago. My photo app has been reminding me of this with its daily “On This Day…” alerts. While we’ve all lived through a year of insurmountable loss and challenges, we’ve had time to reflect, spend family time in close quarters, and focus on projects and hobbies that were long pushed to the wayside.

A few years back I began learning how to use my DSLR to record videos, both as home videos and for client families. Whether it be a special event or a day-in-the-life family film, I thought it would be such a fun and valuable addition to my business offerings. It was something that excited me but, at the time, didn’t have time to focus on and put on the back burner.

I’m happy to say I’ve begun recording more, refining my skills, and diving in once again to family filmmaking! While a photograph can evoke so much emotion and memories, there’s nothing quite like viewing a memory in motion. Family films do just that. The things you want to remember about being together as a family are brought to life that much more in a family film. Smiles, laughter, togetherness…these are enhanced through the magic of motion pictures.

Here’s a family film I created for old friends of mine. Since I hadn’t seen them since college at UC Davis, it was especially incredible to meet their kids. They exuded so much love and adoration for each other. I’m honored to have captured that on film.

The wonderful thing about this was that I incorporated the filmmaking into a regular family photo shoot! So my clients were able to keep this video in addition to a full set of session photos. Some of their images are here below…or see their full session by visiting their photo gallery here.
