When a friend with a daughter as adorable as Mikayla asks you to take her photos, you pull out your calendar and schedule a date. This girl has gone from a petite babe to a fairy full of personality. It’s been a real joy to capture her on camera. Whereas our previous sessions have been in-home studio shoots, this time we got to explore the natural side of Elk Grove.

Although I send out to each client a prep guide that goes over wardrobe suggestions, Mikayla’s mom did not decide on outfits until shortly before the session. Even so, they were so perfectly coordinated. Mikayla was stunning in her cream dress, which offset her milky skin and bright blue eyes. With mom, dad and grandma the color palette was a rich mix of neutrals, army green and burnt orange. Those colors worked so well together.

I absolutely adore these solo portraits of Mikayla. For me they showcase the sweetness of childhood and of just being a kid.

Next we took photos of Mikayla with each of her family members. She was quite a natural for the camera and kept up with good spirits for over an hour. Quite a feat for a 2 year old.

Continuing our adventure through Elk Grove, we walked along some pretty scenery. The light and the breeze were perfect.

The greens of the last series of portraits were stunning. I’m so glad to have photographed against this scenery before the drought and dryness really took a toll on this part of Elk Grove. If only it were this green all year round.
