When I traveled to Fremont to shoot family photos, a past client had offered to help set up mini sessions in the area so that her mommy friends would have an opportunity to have their photos taken. It was a great idea! I have to admit I was a bit nervous to take this on, as I had never held them in Sacramento, my home base. Something about the “build it and they will come” nature of mini sessions makes me anxious — what if no one books? What if families are late and miss their time slot? So it helped ease my anxiety to have someone help with marketing and booking. In the end we had three beautiful families come through for the 20 minute sessions.
We were lucky to have the Shinn Historic Park and Arboretum as our backdrop. Although I wasn’t able to personally scout for an appropriate location, I had a wonderful friend scout for me by proxy and, I must say, she chose an absolutely perfect setting. Especially since we held these sessions in the morning, when I normally aim for soft sunset light, Shinn Park had many areas where we were able to filter the harsh sun to our benefit. The previous day’s rain also made for lush greens, which I love.
Here are a handful of photos from the first family. These make me smile so.

And some photos from the second family . . . (I loved the little boy’s shirt so much I went out and bought my son one.)
And the last family. Loved their outfits too. (Check out baby girl’s converse shoes!)
^Just love her expression here!
And that’s a wrap! After completing these mini sessions I can really see myself holding them in the Sacramento area. I know people typically like doing them for holidays and events, with themes like Valentine’s Day, Back-to-School, Fall/Winter (for holiday cards). Is this something that interests clients here? If you’re interested in this kind of thing, email me so I know if there is demand for it. Or sign up for my mailing list in the footer below. Thanks!
