I know that it’s hard to imagine what an in-home session is like, especially if most of us are used to traveling to a studio for portraits. Though established studios are a wonderful option, there are also benefits to hiring me to travel to your home for studio photos. Especially with newborn photo shoots, in-home sessions are a convenience that many parents appreciate. You don’t have to worry about getting dressed and ready and driving with your new babe, or finding a way to distract and entertain older siblings in a new environment. As a parent, that part is always stressful for me. This blog post is meant to give you a peek into what an in-home session looks like and what quality photos you can expect.
For both newborn shoots and baby milestone shoots, I just need a window and a bit of space (maybe 5’x5′ of room). As a natural light photographer, the window light is all I need. I’m able to set the color temperature of the light using an Expo Disc and set up a reflector as needed to bounce light back onto your baby. Here are a couple of “pullbacks,” as they’re known in the industry, to show you what my set up looks like.
This first image is a pullback of my latest newborn session. It was done in the family’s living room on their rug.
Here is an image from the shoot, completely edited. The light here wraps around her little body so nicely, and I love how the shadows create such depth.
This next pullback is from my last baby milestone session. This one was set up in an upstairs spare bedroom using a single window.
And here are some final images from the shoot.
I hope this makes the idea of an in-home shoot more imaginable. There’s always good light somewhere in a home and I will find it. 🙂 I’m also available to come assess your space prior to booking. If you’re interested in chatting more about what an in-home shoot would look like for you, please contact me.
