As part of my job as a portrait photographer, I am always scouting for visually interesting locations. Effie Yeaw Nature Center is one of these locations and is situated in Carmichael. Effie Yeaw offers so much natural beauty, with pretty green fields, easy walking trails, and the American River. The nature center also offers events and programs, and I enjoy bringing visitors there to explore. This session was my second with this good looking family and, with a cute toddler in tow, we set off exploring the grounds.

As 2014 was my second year in business, I’m thankful that this family entrusted me with their family portraits again. It’s a privilege to have repeat clients and to see the little ones grow, and it was no different seeing this toddler take the leap from age 1 to 2! Especially with me having my own 2-year-old, I know just how fun this age is. It’s the cutest.

We basically walked the main trail from the nature center to the river. As we approached the river there were stones embedded in the ground that, as you can see here, were fun to toddle across.

And here they are at the American River.

I photographed them interact with one another, bird watching as the sun set. These candid moments make for my favorite type of portraits.

And then we walked back along the trail, capturing some mother-daughter shots on the way in the last of the glowing light.

Effie Yeaw has become one of my go-to locations in Sacramento. The photos from this session feature a handful of set-ups this natural area offers.
