I’ll preface this by saying I rarely, if almost never, shoot seniors. My first senior type of session was a trio of sisters who I’ve known for years. The middle child was a senior in high school, so I took the liberty of calling the session a “senior” photo shoot. But no way have I marketed myself as a senior photographer in Sacramento. While I have peripheral knowledge of trends and posing, the speciality is not my wheelhouse.
However, by some unusual circumstance, I had the chance to photograph the stunning beauty featured in this blog post.
I had donated a photography package to a local youth sports auction, which included a gift card credit for a photography session. The session I advertised was for mommy and me photos. The winner of the auction bid contacted me, but instead of requesting a motherhood session, asked me to photograph his daughter’s senior photos. I’ll admit I was a bit nervous, but in hindsight I am so thankful I went ahead taking on a session genre I had little experience in.
If I may say so, these photos turned out beautifully. The weather was iffy for a little while with overcast and heavy wind, but the sun peeked through just enough to give us that golden backlit look I live for.
Although if I’m being honest with myself, H is naturally photogenic and didn’t take much to pull off what could be her modeling portfolio. While editing her photos I kept thinking, maybe I should expand my work to include seniors. It was a pretty amazing session, made so much more fun because of H and her warm, lovely mother.
And without more of my rambling, here are more images from H’s session.
